The Finish Line

Hello friends,
I love it when a plan comes together.
Sadly, today is June 1st and we're not quite ready to open — but we're very close. I'm hopeful we'll be open by the 4th of July.
We've finalized our last sponsor: Pro Fence! They'll be installing the fence on hole 5 that brings my "backstop" idea to life. I expect it to be a hole people play over and over chasing that first ace. Or their 100th.
They're also helping with basket installation. We're hoping to have both the fence and baskets in the ground by mid-June.
We're also in the process of getting signs ordered — approved drafts should be in hand within the week.
And we received our first insurance quote, which took much longer than expected. Being a new business has its drawbacks when it comes to credibility with insurers, but we're starting to find a couple of organizations open to taking us on. We won't be able to open until insurance is locked in, but we can see the finish line.
A few thoughts on how the course has shaped up:
It's smaller than I originally envisioned — very much a beginner and family course, with a couple of shots that give more seasoned players something to work with on their mid-ranges.
The ground is in better shape than it's been in years, but still a little rough in spots. Wear appropriate shoes.
The trees and bushes we've planted are young and not quite grown enough to be the hazards the course design calls for — yet.
But I keep coming back to a story I read to my kids, about a girl who receives a million "no's" chasing her dream — until those no's eventually form one big yes.
I'm confident that within the month, I'll have baskets in the ground, the turf tee pads down to throw from, and those playing the course will hear the sound of chains ringing on a beautiful summer day.
I hope you'll come out and support the course — and see what it can become. Either way, it's been a fun ride already.
Wheels up!
