World of potential

Hello friends,

Runway1 in Clayton soft opened a couple weeks ago and we've now had a few people come out to buy passes and play.

Without a huge marketing budget or plan this reception has been more of a trickle than the rush we'd hoped for but it still has me grateful for a couple things.

Namely, there have been people who paid money to experience something I've created. Born though a shared passion or curiosity of disc golf.

It's amazing to me that people I've never met and may never meet, paid their hard earned money to try something I've built that I also love.

What a cool world of shared potential this creates. How many different and interesting people might have purchased or gone to the same places as you.

Aside from my minor tangent - few things coming:

  • We are still working on a grand opening. We'd like to have a local vendor or two there and schedules and costs have been tougher to align than we thought. Still working towards a more formal grand-opening with some Wheels Up branded discs for sale, a food or drink vendor, and some giveaways.

  • No one has aced (at least note in UDisc) at the course yet. I will be there this weekend to get a couple more rounds in to see if I can do it - but if you beat me to it, we'd love to get a video on the website if you happen to film it. Could likely even toss in a new disc I'd give as a bounty to the first couple.

  • If you have ideas on how to use the course - reach out! Open to youth groups, school groups, team building, etc.

  • Ambitions with social: I've been tinkering with doing some weekly posts, not about the course, but more like a disc show & tell segment as someone who has disc golfed for 20 years and has some interesting ones I've held on to. If you are interested in old stamps or discs, or cool new ones - let us know! Encouragement will always help fuel the work.

We expect to have the course open through end of October this year before pausing for the winter and opening again around April when the weather rebounds.

I'm also starting to think about what crazy idea I'll devote some time to next year. Likely either writing a book (my current plan is a through provoking anthology book) or publishing a board game (at minimum either pitching a board game to a designer to see if we could be published or trying a Kickstarter).

Thanks for supporting this business, it's been a fun ride already - no matter where it ends up.
